2017 Nissan Sentra Nismo

After Nissan dropped the Sentra SE-R in 2012, they left a huge
gap which needed filling. When the automaker introduced the
Sentra NISMO Concept at the Los Angeles Auto Show in 2013, we
all thought a production model would follow shortly after.
However, for years, nothing happened and we though…well,
another impressive concept which will never see the light of
day…until now. Our spy photographers caught up with the 2017
Nissan Sentra NISMO testing on the streets of Los Angeles which
means Nissan could release the model soon, perhaps even this

The Sentra has been criticized as bland from some quarters
hence needed a bit of spark which the NISMO brings onboard.
With a Nismo lineup boasting models like the GT-R, Juke and
370Z, enthusiasts can expect a good dose of excitement in the
new Sentra sedan. Read along to find out what the NISMO adds to
the Sentra stable:

2017 Nissan Sentra Nismo Exterior

The NISMO is adding excitement to all departments starting with
the exterior which looks very aerodynamic than any current
Sentra sedan. At the front, the model features a black chrome
grille which is flanked by LED headlights. The front bumper is
integrated with air intakes at each corner which help channel
more cooling air to the front brake calipers.  The bumper
is also integrated with LED fog lights just above the air

Rocker panels and fenders reach closer to the ground which
makes the Sentra NISMO look more aggressive.  The front
also features a prominent splitter while the rear is
characterized by a deck-lid spoiler that extends its trunk. LED
taillights add to the sedan’s attractive rear look. There is
also a rear diffuser and a chrome-coated dual exhaust tip to
complete the rear look.

On the sides, the 2017 Nissan Sentra NISMO features attractive
side- mirrors which are integrated with turn signals. The model
rides on 19-inch RAYS aluminum-alloy wheels. The wheels are
wrapped in 225/35R19 Michelin Super Sport tires.

2017 Nissan Sentra Nismo Interior

The interior is still a mystery as of this writing. Our
photographers didn’t get close enough to take shots of the
cabin. However, since the model is meant to add a bi of
sportiness to the Sentra, expect Recaro sport bucket seats at
the front wrapped in leather and Alcantara. I also believe the
steering wheel and shifter will be wrapped in leather. The door
panels and probably the dash will be wrapped in Alcantara.

I expect a quality infotainment system though not a state-of
–the art system considering Nissan has to keep the price from
shooting off the roof. Driving aids will also be offered to
improve safety standards of the model. I expect a few of them
like stability control and traction control to come standard
while lane change assist and parking assist among others should
be offered as options.

Engine Specs and performance

Though it has not been confirmed, the Sentra NISMO is likely to
be powered by the same engine that powered its Concept. This
engine is similar to the one on the Juke but its capacity has
been increased to 1.8 L. The turbocharged, 4-cylinder engine
will be capable of producing 240 hp and 240 lb-ft of torque.
Power will be channeled to the front wheels via a 6-speed
manual transmission system.

An AWD system would be much welcome but it is not likely. With
this engine, the Sentra NISMO is expected to run from
standstill to 60 mph in under 6 seconds and still post an
impressive fuel economy of around 30 mpg on highway drives.

Price and release date

As mentioned earlier, Nissan will likely deliver the model to
dealerships this summer. As for the price, expect the model to
be competitively priced to compete with its rivals. Te model
will be expensive than the standard Sentra. A starting price of
around $ 25,000 is likely. Extra options will take the price to
over $ 30,000.

Since the SE-R was discontinued, Nissan has lacked a model to
rival the likes of Ford
Focus ST, Honda Civic
SI Sedan ,
Volkswagen Golf GTI and
Subaru WRX. Nissan hopes the new 2017 Nissan Sentra NISMO
will give the aforementioned models a run for their money.
